The Talisman Ring

A Georgian mystery. After the death of his great-uncle, Sir Tristram Shield attempts to uncover the truth of Sir Matthew Plunkett’s murder, a murder which led to the exile of his cousin Ludovic. He is either helped or hindered by a large cast of characters, including Ludovic, their half-French cousin Eustacie, an inn-keeper/smuggler named Joseph Nye, and Miss Sarah Thane, a lady travelling with her brother. A great deal of fun and hijinks ensue. Despite the seriousness of Ludovic’s accused crime, this is a light-hearted book, full of funny moments and misunderstandings.
The Nonesuch

Amused at first by Ancilla Trent’s stand-offishness, Sir Waldo Hawkridge rapidly falls in love with her. She is a companion/governess to two young women, but he isn’t at all bothered. She, while disliking the set he belongs to, begins to appreciate his better qualities as she becomes better acquainted with him. Unfortunately, there are several complications. One of her more serious books, this still has plenty of amusing moments.
